Stuart Travels to Empress Alberta to Operate

Stuart Lyster (VA7QB, but as VE6MPRESS) activated the Empress, Alberta, railway station telegraphy room July 19 to 21, for the village's 110 Anniversary celebration.  His uncle Bill Babuk was the CPR telegrapher at that station in the 1940s and 1950s, and handled CPR telegrams- including the three that sent note to our family of his dad's wounding during WWII.

Stuart first set up on July 17 at the top of Kicking Horse Pass, mere feet into Alberta from B.C.  On July 18, he set-up in Vulcan, AB, 90 SE of Calgary, outside of the Star Trek museum.  He 'opened hailing frequencies', but the condx were very bad.

In Empress, climate condx were equally difficult, the afternoon high was 36°C with bad smoke from Alberta's wildfires.

Thank you to Ralph Webb (VE7OM) for helping with the equipment back here in White Rock, the Kenwood 480SAT plus Buddistick worked flawlessly, especially with the 80M mod, which needed a Balun between antenna and transceiver.  He was even in the Empress celebration parade, behind the horses and tractors.
