27th annual walk/run for prostate cancer

A well known local amateur radio personality, Hiroshi recruited me (from White Rock) and a number of other amateur radio operators to volunteer for the 27th Annual Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer at Burnaby Lake on father's day.  I met radio amateurs from Abbotsford, Delta, Surrey and of course Burnaby.  We were stationed along the course to report the progress of runners and report any incidents.  There was actually a little static on our handheld radios (on simplex), I assume from all the trees around us.

There were 2 incidents to report, a minor traffic problem from the very rude Burnaby Rowing Club and something more serious at the finish line, where a 19 year old man required an ambulance (exhaustion, dehydration).

There was great camaraderie amongst the radio people and we enjoyed our t-shirts and burgers.  An interesting experience, look forward to doing it again.
