Bob activates his first park

On June 12th, 2026 I had the pleasure of completing my first Parks on the Air activation.

After planning my antenna and acquiring the necessary radio equipment and a power source I was ready for my first trip to a park.  The setup was very easy with the assistance of Joe VE7JJK and Sue my XYL which was greatly appreciated.  Once I got on the air, I was amazed at the low radio noise level in the park and the ease of hearing the stations that responded to my CQs.  There was a bit of a glitch getting spotted properly online but with the help of Eric VA7NX all was good.

Very early in the activation a visitor came by Joe and Eric explained amateur radio and what I was doing while I continued to operate.

After about 45 minutes I had 12 QSOs logged and was no longer getting responses to my calls so I decided to end the activation.  I reviewed my log entries and successfully submitted them to the POTA website.  I am looking forward to my next activation.
